Why Brooke and Lucas were better matched!

Starting in 2003, One Tree Hill aired the pilot episode which introduced the audience to believe Peyton and Lucas were the couple to route for. Then comes episode two which introduces Brooke; starting the relationship of Brooke and Lucas (Also known as the Brucas relationship). Flashing-forward 15 years and 9 seasons later, I still believe that Brooke and Lucas were the better match.

I have personally always been a fan of the characters Brooke and Lucas, as well as the relationship between the two. I have watched the show many different times and each time I find another reason to why these two characters were a better match. While it will never be truly known if personal issues got in the way or if the creator wanted to go one-way vs another with the show, one thing known is that the two actors had truly amazing chemistry together. Additionally, the fans could always tell that these two characters genuinely cared for each other. I can list the reasons why these characters were a better match, but I would rather explain the reasons.

When Lucas and Brooke were dating in season one of the series Brooke told Lucas that she had never given a rat’s ass before about anyone and Lucas replied back to her that he gave a rat’s ass about her too. You can really see that is true throughout the series because he truly gets to know about Brooke and who she is. He knows about when she was little and had a purple monkey. Additionally, when they were talking about the speech Brooke was going to give to try and win class president, he gives her a quote that she says no one would believe it coming from her. He responds he would, because he knew the type of person Brooke was. She put on this act for everyone, but he knew who she was deep down. He also told Brooke that he always saw her as vulnerable and that is what he loved most about her, because she let her walls down for him. Later when Lucas talks about the different people in his life for a movie, based on his novel, he mentions that there are two sides to Brooke Davis. Both of which he knows are amazing.

Lucas would know that there are two different sides to Brooke Davis because he’s seen them both and has loved them both. It’s something he’s mentioned to her a couple of times while giving her these I love you speeches. These speeches that he also only gave to Brooke and could name many of the different reasons to why he loved her. Stating once that even if they get pneumonia if she needed to hear the reasons why he loved her, he could go all night. That truly proved that he cared far more about her then just what was on the surface. It’s brought up again when he shows Brooke his novel and asks her to read what he wrote. “She was fiercely independent. Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful and brave. In two years, she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday. And I’m not sure she even knowns it.”

Another thing is that Brooke had stated when her mother told her that she worked too hard to risk it all over some boy, Brooke responses that Lucas was the one boy she would have lost it for. That she would have given up everything she ever built to be with Lucas because she still loved him. Lucas felt that same way because he was there for Brooke when it came to Angie. He had lost Lindsay and yet he was spending his time with Brooke and Angie. When Angie was going through surgery Lucas was right there by her side. Lucas even showed up at the airport when Brooke had to save goodbye to Angie even after she told him not to come. Sure, it could be said that he was being a good friend to Brooke, because that is what he promised to do. He was there when others weren’t.

Lastly who can fight destiny? Rachel tests Lucas two different times, first is by blind folding him and seeing if he can sink the basketball in the hoop and saying make the shot if Brooke’s the one. The second time is after Lucas makes the shot Rachel stands there topless and Lucas just covers her up. Lucas also tells Rachel that Brooke is the one, because he can feel it. That he truly believes that there is one person for everyone out there and that Brooke is that person. On the other side of town Brooke is telling Chris that Lucas is the one for her, because she can just feel it. In another episode Peyton asks Lucas that when all his dreams come true who did he want standing next to him. He replies without a second thought Brooke. Brooke was there next to him both when he won the state championship game and when he got the news of his book being published. She was the one. She is the biggest part of Lucas’ world.
