I just started watching the series Supernatural for the first time, and I have no idea why it took me so long to watch it. When the series first started, I watched an episode here and there, but in the back of my mind I always thought, āI canāt watch this.ā It was never because I didnāt think that it was a good show, or that there were 13 seasons, but because it was terrifying for me. Iām the type that scares easily, and this show was something I just couldnāt watch. However, something clicked, and I was ready to be brave. Now that I have watched the whole series, I can see that the show slowly started to get less disturbing, and how endearing it is.
One of the biggest premises of the show (besides hunting the supernatural), is family ā between the character, the cast, and the fans. The series celebrates what makes everyone different, and how there is still respect and love, no matter what. One of the main characters, Dean, says:
āA wise man once told me, family donāt end in blood. But it doesnāt start there either. Family cares about you, not what you can do for them. Familyās there; for the good, bad, all of it. They got your back, even when it hurts. Thatās family.ā
This is a quote that rings true for the series, as well as reality.
Many people come in and out of life, but there is always one thing to count on ā and thatās family. The message about the importance of family is exactly what the show has been able to give back to its viewers, a sense of family. The show stopped being just about following the Winchester brothers, but also about the family they built through the years. Dean and his brother Sam have endured so much, but the one thing that never changed was anyone who came into their lives becomes family. Everyone has their own extended families, but for viewers of this show, Supernaturalās characters, cast, crew, and fans will always be a part of it.
